NIA raids in T’gana & AP, PFI office sealed in Hyd

HYDERABAD: In a fresh crackdown on the controversial Islamist outfit, Popular Front of India (PFI), National Investigation Agency raided multiple locations across two Telugu states and sealed the regional PFI office at Chandrayangutta in Old City early Thursday.
Later in the day, NIA announced the arrest of a Hyderabad resident, Abdul Waris, for alleged PFI links. Raids were also conducted at Uppal and Ghatkesar and searches carried out at seven places in Karimnagar and a few places in Guntur district in Andhra Pradesh.
An anti-terror agency official, Krishna Kumar Bharadwaj, affixed a notice on the rented office of PFI in Naseeb Nagar locality of Chandrayangutta and asked the building owner to move special NIA court at Nampally metropolitan criminal court premises. On August 28, the NIA unit of Hyderabad had registered a case against PFI under UAPA.tnn
